My first Month: Special Weekend

Last weekend was very special! I completed my first month in Cape Town and gradually, my English is improving ...  It’s not as good as I would like yet, but I have to be a patient.

Days 6, 7 and 8 September my friends and I went to Yzerfontein, which according to Wikipedia is a small harbour with about 1200 people on the West Coast of South Africa, about 90km north of Cape Town. This place is famous for its beach and flowers. Yes, wild flowers are in season from August to October where you can see a carpet of flowers. Very beautiful!

We rented a house in Yzerfontein and went to visit the town of Darling and its famous Voorkamerfest. This year marks 10th annual festival. The idea is fantastic: the people open their houses to the public, and various artists perform in their “voorkamer/front room. The visits, in small groups of 20 people, go to the houses and can watch three different shows, in three different living rooms.

On Saturday we watched the violinist, Anele Mhlahlo... so beautiful and poetic...  After that, we watched the Cape Celtic Dance Academy and the Irish dance... one strong and lively spectacle. And finally, we watched the band “Mr. Cat & the Jackal”, with its folk music.  This experience was unforgettable for a “Bonitense”.  I was thinking that something like this could happen in Bonito...

Well, on Sunday we visited the West Coast National Park and I saw the famous carpet of flowers and  Langebaan Beach – Wonderful!  Ah and we were very lucky because we saw a group of Eland.  What an imposing animal.

 Thank God for amazing days.

First Weeks!

I arrived in Cape Town on  09/08/13 and began my English classes on 13/08, at Cape Studies. In my first weekend, my friend, Ederval Carbonaro, showed me some places and streets in the districts of Sea Point, Green Point and Fresnay. My new home is in Fresney and my school is in Green Point.

The city is very beaultiful. The montains are impressive, powerfully and require one’s constant attention. Table Montain National Park is the biggest urban park in the world and it’s power with a wild beauty.
In my first weekend I started walking again, an activity which I hadn’t done in years. I bought myself new trainers. News days!

I will talk about the school later....... Now I'd like to show a bit of the city view:

 1. This is my new home, with views of the Lion's Head Montain:

2. This is the view of Campus Bay and the 12 Apostles Mountains...
